The who's who of the film and cricket fraternity was present at Sachin Tendulkar's retirement and Bharat Ratna celebration bash.
The bash hosted by Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar, saw the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Aishwarya Rai, Sunil Gavaskar, Amitabh Bachchan, Virender Sehwag, Aamir Khan, Gautam Gambhir, Asha Bhosle, Yuvraj Singh among others in attendance.
The only thing missing from Sachin's illustrious cricketing career was a World Cup trophy and that dream finally came true in 2011 when India won the World Cup after 28 years
33 innings, 1 year and after millions of moments spent waiting for the 100th ton, finally, the Little Master raised his arms and celebrated. It was a moment to rejoice not only because of the landmark, but also because it brought a sense of release not only to one man, but for a nation of a billion cricket fans
Tendulkar was forced to fly back to Mumbai in the middle the 1999 World Cup to attend his father's funeral. After missing a game against Zimbabwe, he was back in the line-up to face Kenya. Having lost their first two matches, India needed a win to keep the hopes of qualifying to the next round alive. Tendulkar put on a spirited, passionate and inspired performance to pay the perfect tribute to his father. An unbeaten 237-run stand with Rahul Dravid, whose century was sort of overshadowed by Tendulkar's performance ensured a massive total and a crucial win for India in the end.
During the 2003 World Cup, India faced their arch-rivals in a widely anticipated game. Chasing 274 for victory, the Master Blaster faced the Rawalpindi Express in the second over of the Indian innings. Akhtar bowled the fourth ball short and slightly outside the off stump, and judging it quickly, Sachin cut it swiftly over backward point. The ball sailed over third man as the crowd at Centurion erupted into a roar. The next two balls received a more traditional bashing as Sachin added two boundaries to his tally. Tendulkar went on to spearhead India into an unforgettable victory with a spectacular 98.
One of the greatest ODI inning of all time from Sachin's blade. When Saeed Anwar reached 194, many had thought cricket will have to wait for generations for that record to be broken. The wait was there but not for that long. When the record was broken, it was the sweetest moment for Sachin and Indian cricket. Sachin's 200 and India's 401 will be remembered forever.
All good things come to an end. But bidding farewell to game that made him a legend wasn't easy for Sachin Tendulkar himself. An emotional man, Sachin couldn’t help but shed tears as he walked off the pitch, one final time.
The teammates very fittingly dedicated the 2011 World Cup victory to Tendulkar and expressed their gratitude towards the player by lifting him up. Tendulkar waving and draped in the tri-colour will remain an iconic image for eternity.
This was easily one of the most special moments for Sachin in his career. The India-England series had been abruptly called off following the 26/11 Mumbai blasts and when it resumed after a month, Sachin wanted to do something special. He did so in style. India chased down a mammoth 387 in the final inning thanks to great unbeaten 103 by the Little Master at one of his favourite venues.
